Video Surveillance

Closed Camera Television (CCTV) are systems reused to improve the security in a place by recording events in an area. Due to the increase in crime rates, CCTV help provides evidence for all the activities. CCTVs are used for both personal and public use. They protect properties and ensure that all operations in an organization are per the code and ethics of the organization. CCTVs also reduce the cost of security since it helps provide all-time surveillance to a place, and the footage is used later as evidence. There are examples of CCTV technologies that are used in the protection of the United State Government facility. The technologies differ according to the facility.

The U.S Government uses video surveillance, a security solution to the buildings and facilities since it helps provide security solutions that keep the facilities, the assets, and the employees safe from external and internal attacks (Quiglet et al., 2019). The government uses video surveillance since it helps in providing different services since. It helps give temporary security services in government functions such as inauguration ceremonies and speeches. Due to the rise of terrorism threats in the U.S., the government has used video surveillance. It records various parts of the countries that provide government alerts if there are terrorist acts in any state.

Examples of facilities that use video surveillance include hospitals. Hospitals are critical facilities in the U.S. since it helps safeguard people’s health. CCTV technologies in hospitals protect the employees and the patients from getting security breaches and also avails visual evidence in case of malpractices and medical errors (Herasevich & Subwamanian, 2019). The CCTV technologies help increase security in the hospital premises and ensure the safety of the employees and the patients; it also improves the employees’ productivity due to the improvement of communication between the departments (Quiglet et al., 2019). The surveillance also helps prevent false accusations from patients and outside facilities (Fang et al., 2020). The video surveillance also helps in allowing authorized personnel to monitor activities in the hospital remotely and provides visual evidence in case of investigations in the hospitals.

There is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) compliance that allows the protection of Personal Health Information when using the video surveillance solution (Quiglet et al., 2019). Hospitals using video surveillance have to be HIPAA compliant to use the security technologies. The compliance safeguards the information of the organization or persons in the video. The hospitals have administrative, technical, and physical safeguards that protect Personal Health Information (PHI) (Quiglet et al., 2019). The technical safeguards are the encryptions where hospitals decide on using modern firewalls and single sign-on providers in the hospitals. The physical safeguards comprise the use of badges while entering the access control room that restricts sensitive information only to those allowed. It creates an easy way of trailing the people that have access to the information (Fang et al., 2020). The hospitals, therefore, audit camera placements, limit access to the video systems, use permission in the access room, and choose video security systems.
