Organizational Behavior

Organizational behavior is the study of human interaction in a business operation to ensure the smooth running of the business. The study involves promoting innovation, job satisfaction, job performance, and good leadership in an organization. Through the study of organizational behavior, an organization gets different ways of ensuring an increase in job satisfaction and good leadership that promotes invention and innovation in the firm. This ensures that the organization maximizes profits due to its employees’ dedication to better performance on the job. The essay, therefore, explains the elements of organizational culture and discusses the importance of organizational subcultures.

The elements of organizational culture include people, structure, technology, and the external environment. An organization helps to provide services to the people(Shilov, 2021). An organization exists because people come together and work there. The internal social system in the organization is made up of people (Maydiantoro et al., 2021). The people in the organization may form groups that will help in the organization’s operations, which may be formal and informal, complex, small, or large. When people interact, they impact each other and help bring organizational changes, such as better job performance and changes in leadership structures that may also dissolve an organization.

Structure in an organization is important since it helps ensure its proper functioning. The structure of an organization refers to the roles of the people in the organization and their relationships (Shilov, 2021). The structure ensures a division of labor in an organization, proper leadership channels that connect the employees and the management, and the roles of every leader in the organization (Maydiantoro et al., 2021). The relationship between the leaders and the other employees helps achieve the organization’s goals.

Technology is important in an organization as it comprises the machines and the processes of work that ensure people have the proper resources to work and improve the organization’s performance (Shilov, 2021). Technology supports invention and innovation in an organization, influencing every employee’s job performance. Also, technology influences the relationship between workers in the workplace (Maydiantoro et al., 2021). Therefore, technology may influence employees’ physical and economic resources to make work easier in an organization. However, technology may also affect peoples’ freedom in the workplace.

The external environment is the last element of organizational behavior. Although an organization operates depending on the employees and management, external elements also affect it. An organization cannot survive alone since it has both internal and external environments (Maydiantoro et al., 2021). The external environment includes the community’s political, technological, economic, legal, and socio-cultural forces. The forces impact the employee’s attitude, customer satisfaction, and the organization’s working conditions (Shilov, 2021). The external environment helps ensure proper competitive space for all organizations to provide good services to the community.

Organizational subcultures are formed when people with common job responsibilities or identities join to form their interpretations of an organization. Subcultures ensure that people feel included in the organization since there is inclusivity in the group formed due to race, ethnicity, or occupation (Mello & Schloemer, 2021). Organizational subcultures are important because they help in ensuring that the people develop a sense of identity and have common values that influence the behavior in the job environment that improves the job performance of the people in the groups (Mello & Schloemer, 2021). The subcultures also help to create cohesion among the employees and therefore allows the employees to uphold the company values rather than the individual values. It also raises morale among the employees and therefore impacts on the productivity of every employee. Organizational subcultures also help in ensuring proper management of stress among the employees and therefore reduces the effects of stress in the workplace.
