Narration refers to how a person uses a spoken or written commentator to pass a story to a particular audience. On the contrary, an unspecified voice or a particular person’s literary voice created by the story’s producer to convey information to the audience is regarded as a narrator. Therefore, this paper examines the differences between narration and narrator using the video “Life Is Beautiful by Miraax (2016).
Firstly, it is essential to understand the narration of the film. The film uses a voice narration that summarizes the key points of the film plot. Distinctly, it connects stories that might need further explanations (Miramax, 0:00-1:41). The film is all about a bumbling and charming Jewish waiter whose imagination, ability, and positive spirit help him attract a beautiful school teacher. The lovely couple then marries, and after a short period, their relationship is broken due to infiltration from Nazi soldiers.
Besides, the film uses a third-person voice narrative. This is because the video refers to all the participants and characters in third-person pronouns. This highlights that the narration is clear and is conducted without the need to personify and identify the narrator as the character in the story (Miramax, 0:00-1:41). It does not need the narrator’s existence to be developed or explained.
Furthermore, the director chooses this perspective from the third person narrative perspective to give the facts of the story. The director does not want to provide the emotional feelings and thoughts of the characters (Miramax, 0:00-1:41). Also, giving the story in a third-person perspective allows a better character development in that the director freely writes plenty of actions that transpire in the story. Similarly, certain actions are unfolding bringing the aspect of suspense since the characters are completely unaware.
