Artists Fighting Racial Discrimination in the United States of America (Marvin Gaye)

The United States of America is one of the countries that have experienced the negative impacts of racism within the social domain. America comprises individuals with different backgrounds in terms of culture, place of origin, and color. The Non- Native American citizens make up the minority groups in the American public domain. Racism has been on the rise since non-native American citizens were allowed to settle within the territories of America after the Second World War. The privilege to settle in America was greatly opposed by the white Native American citizen who subjected the minority groups in various top forms of racial discrimination.

Different measures have been taken to ensure that racial discrimination is dealt with effectively to enhance a peaceful and productive relationship between all the citizens of America regardless of an individual’s race. Different artists have created various forms of art that advocate for antiracism within the social scene. The music and film industry have also contributed towards various campaigns aiming to do away with racism. One of the most renowned musicians whose musical prowess has contributed immensely towards antiracism campaigns in American is Marvin Gaye. In his song, he outlines how the American systems treat black individuals differently compared to white individuals.

In his song, What Going On, he speaks about white American soldiers are treated with more dignity as compared to black soldiers. Black soldiers were subjected to lower remuneration while others were not receiving their benefits. The central theme from his musical piece was inequality and racism in various sectors in America (“11 Protest Songs Fighting For Racial Justice,” 2020). He also highlights that inequality due to racism is the main contribution to poverty within America. Different campaigns have been put up to fight racism within America, the latest one being the black lives matter campaign.
