First Dimension: Drive and Want

The Time Machine” by H.G. Wells is a perfect exemplar of the present-day twist especially at a time when the globe is battling with the Covid-19 pandemic. The novel features an inventor who happens to have the ability to travel to the future and explore the fate of humanity. This makes sense even today since not a single inventor can paint a clear picture of what will happen to humanity in the years to come. In many ways, the urge to know what will happen in the future drives what we do today. This means that most people have future aspirations and hence work towards them in the present. As presented by the unprecedented case for the Covid-19 pandemic, the world desires to know what will happen in the future now that ever for reasons such as preparedness. This is the reason why there is an accelerated discovery of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence that would make the future ideal. That is to say, what people want now is an ideal, utopian world that is free from life-threatening or ending plagues such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

Second Dimension: Backstory and Characteristics

Covid-19 is a major pandemic that has significantly ravaged almost every sector around the world. Since it was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), Covid-19 is attributed to the deaths of more than three million last year (2020) alone. All these deaths are directly and indirectly linked to Covid-19 and hence increasing the mortality rate around the world. The case for Covid-19 in 2020 and how it ravaged nations around the world is the backstory that is driving most of the actions today – 2021. To keep Covid-19 at bay and prevent further spread, actions and behavior associated with hygiene have, for example, been heightened. Based on the advice from health experts, the need to keep social distance and constantly washing hands has become order the day not only to prevent the spread of the pandemic but also as a habit and a way of life. In many ways, this has contributed to the orderliness of life in general, as some of these actions (such as social distancing and regular washing) were not the case in the past. That is to say, the past (2020) has shaped who we are today and what we do. The same has also fueled a new journey toward accelerated discoveries that may, for example, offset the effects of the pandemic especially in the years to come.

Third Dimension: Flaw and Need

In many ways, the pandemic increased phobia among people around the world especially during the initial stages of the pandemic. At the time, no vaccine had been developed and tested for use to prevent or suppress the virus. Chances of death were high at the time.
