Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Report
Background
After a long time of wanting to know my personality type according to MBTI, I decided to take a self-assessment test. According to what I know about myself, I tend to be decisive, logical, and result-oriented. I also like to take charge of everything I am doing and offer diversified opinions to help the people around me solve problems in their lives, making me a natural leader.
I often put a lot of weight in my decisions and do my best to respect and value other people’s opinions and inputs. Whenever I feel as if someone is putting off my feelings, I feel disoriented to the extent that I do not realize that sometimes the decisions I contemplate taking to feel better end up hurting the people around me. In situations where stress is bothering me, I feel disconnected from everything around me. I usually feel as if I have been undervalued and misunderstood. My efforts have been taken for granted. Even though I am very straightforward and often do not have problems expressing myself, I usually find it difficult to demonstrate how I feel under stress.
Above all things, I value social order and security, and many times I feel obligated to do everything within my power to ensure that I sustain these values. I will participate in elections, join the PTA, mow the lawn, attend community meetings, and do anything that will help me embrace social and personal security. I will also do anything else that I think should be done in my marriage, job, and community and accomplish them all with a good amount of self-drive. I am always realistic, practical, conscientious, and a dependable individual who can be trusted and depended on by other people in society. While I do everything within my power to create a comfortable environment for the people around me, sometimes I find it difficult for me to value the significance of the goals outside the practical scope and incline towards focusing only on the practicable things. In doing this, I always ensure that I put vast effort into understanding and incorporating all attainable goals and approach them with high levels of security and clarity.
However, I usually encounter problems when making a tough decision, and sometimes I rush to make harsh decisions without gathering adequate facts, which always reflects in my judgments. I am quick to get angry, which hinders me from listening to other people’s perspectives about the problem I am currently encountering, which results in me making more mess where the damage would be manageable. I tend to overlook my feelings and potential, which makes it hard to see what other people care about, and I want everything to revolve around me. Sometimes I find it difficult to express my gratitude when people do something positive for me.
Impressions
I appear to be a very decisive individual in life. I have a strong desire to take the MBTI test, and I am interested in knowing the outcomes. Upon receiving my results, I was very pleased, and I enjoyed listening about my personality type. I am passionate about gathering more information about the MBTI, which I am willing to get additional information from various research studies. I do not have much interest in learning about the outcomes of other people, and I have no intention to compare my results or even talk to them about how they think of other people or me.
Results
According to the MBTI, my results suggest that I am extraverted, sensing, intuitive thinker, and judging, renowned as ESTJ. As an ESTJ, I can organize people and projects to get things done promptly by focusing more on maximizing the outcomes by employing the most efficient techniques. According to this personality type, I tend to make decisions based on logic, facts, and experience, and I am in full control of my daily life routine, ensuring that I am always on the right side. I agree with the test outcomes as I am always careful with every decision I make in my life and do my best to be as straightforward as possible in my communication to ensure that everyone around me understands me. I often do not mind going the extra mile to make tough decisions whenever the need arises (Quenk, 2009).
From the outcomes, I can identify the attributes that enable me to know where I belong and know what I can do to be a better individual. Being an extrovert means that I am an outgoing, result-oriented, and energetic individual who is always expressive and enthusiastic in everything I do. The sensitive attribute ensures that I will pay undivided attention to facts based on fact and is creative to help me deal with the problems I am experiencing now and prevent them from repeating in the future. The thinker attribute is important in enabling me to make logical and impersonal analyses (Quenk, 2009). I will use my brain to make sound judgment rather than letting the heart give in to earthly pleasures, which might attract more problems than assistance. The judge attribute will enable me to always remain true to myself by living an orderly, planned lifestyle and making quality decisions that will always lead me towards living a life that I am in full control of.
My description of organizing tasks and ensuring that everything is done as needed qualifies me to be a natural-born leader, ESTJ’s perspective. I am always so motivated that I always rise to take the lead whenever I think it’s necessary. I feel proud to assist people in pulling their lives together and moving them towards achieving their goals. To be a reliable leader, I set high standards for myself and other people around me, and I am constantly making lists of the new things I want to learn, master, and accomplish. MBTI also provides that as an individual with ESTJ, I am always analytical in reflecting and resolving problems around me by employing critical thinking to find a long-lasting solution.
The results further provide that as an ESTJ like to organize operations, facts, and situations related to a project assigned to me, I will develop a systematic effort to fulfill the project’s objectives. ESTJ also ensures that everything is done out of passion and pays undivided attention to the job at hand and not the people behind it. In most situations, ESTJ prefers to focus on projects that will bring visible, realistic, and immediate outcomes, take all the necessary precautions to accomplish a task, encounter all underlying problems, put together resources, and assign responsibilities. I agree with the results that when an ESTJ is at work and realize that something is not working as it should, he/she will make relevant actions and plan to reverse the situation and, in most cases, will prefer proven systems and procedures to carry on with tasks. I usually opt to handle a situation from its root, which is ideal for business, construction, and production. It makes them excellent leaders with an excellent understanding of how logistics and systems work. An ESTJ individual likes to make decisions, set goals, assign the relevant tasks, and be unhappy when forced to work in unconducive working environments with confusion and inefficient strategies to make work done.
ESTJ work well in teamwork as they have vast knowledge on how the group members interact with each other, which increases the opportunity that he/she will become the team leader. Upon taking the leadership position, an ESTJ will employ a leadership style that is simple, pure, bring full attention to the project and maximize on contributing to organized and goal-oriented results. In connection to this, the leadership styles ESTJ individuals will employ play a great role in providing clues that will offer objective approaches, goals, and enthusiasm necessary to execute the tasks at hand. I agree with these outcomes as they are the true definition of myself. I always grab all leadership opportunities available and do my best to produce optimum results in everything the group decides.
ESTJ’s communication style is made of two main elements: how to express oneself and listening ability. ESTJ understands that straightforward communication is the heart of success in everything they want to do. Therefore, the results indicate that ESTJ uses a pragmatic, direct communication style, communicates with authority and decisiveness, and employs high levels of commitment and passion. This suggests that I am a true definition of ESTJ as I tend to be open-minded and tell people around me about everything in my mind, which helps me mobilize my group members to get work done promptly (Ma, Guo, & Fang, 2021).
I believe that my approach to problem-solving is quite different from other people. For instance, I always believe that where there is a will, there is a way, and I am always ready to go to all extent to find it. Again I also make sure to stay in a good mood and ask other people questions to assist me in making quality decisions. This is the same to ESTJ as an individual with this attribute is always looking for alternative solutions that will best suit the problem at hand.
I have learned that stress plays a great factor in my ability to work and sustain healthy relationships with people around me effectively. The more stress there is in my life, the more difficulties I have in establishing healthy relationships and do quality work in my career. Some of the things that trigger my stress include feeling as if the people around me are ignoring my efforts and feel as if I have been compromised negatively. This makes me easily lose my vision, motivation, and ability to make tough decisions about what I want to achieve in life. Whenever I am stressed out, I am easily worn out by small tasks. I find it challenging to maintain logical thinking and feel powerless to take effective actions to change the current state of my life. Regular acts of affection are significant to me as an ESTJ. It provides the necessary energy to keep me moving ahead and assist other peoples in overcoming barriers in their lives.
I believe my behavior is similar to ESTJ as I am effective in environments that match my preferences and work style. Whenever I find the situation unconducive, it becomes very difficult for me to think systematically; thus, good outcomes are hard to come by. Some of my preferences similar to ESTJ personality traits include a high preference to work in the work environment where I am the leader. I highly prefer environments where my vision for the organization can be implemented. I am always seeking efficient systems to create the ideal environment.
Previously, I have realized that understanding the rate at which I can learn and implement new things in my life effectively enables me to structure classroom instructions or on-the-job training. This is a perfect match to ESTJ’s attributes, which adopts a learning system that finds the learning process interesting and the main way to move on in career and life. ESTJ also seeks variety and action within the learning setting to avoid boredom and looks forward to implementing strategies that will fully exploit my abilities, such as statistical analysis. This has been of great help as it has enabled me to become the best leader in many projects, and many people can trust me to assist them in handling their problems.
As I continue to grow and mature, I must learn how to pull back from my current strategy of doing things and focus more on establishing my least favorite skills. This new prowess will be of great help to become a more versatile and balanced individual as supported by ESTJ personality. ESTJ provides the following suggestions to assist me in avoiding the obvious blind spots and identify the areas that I need to maximize to be successful fully. The first one is that ESTJ emphasizes the need to step back after making mistakes brought by making hasty decisions and emphasizes the need to become sensitive to the imperfections and needs I have as a human being to avoid being ignored unappreciated by people around me. As a true character of ESTJ, I will discover growth opportunities by learning how to exercise patience with other people’s timeframes and decisions, which will enable me to become more productive and avoid feeling overwhelmed.
As an ESTJ, I am very outgoing, and I love to enjoy spending quality company in the company of other people instead of being alone. I am also funny and boisterous in social situations, and in most cases, I love when I am the center of attention with everyone listening to what I have in my mind. I also take my relationship with my family very seriously, and I believe they are the most important part of my life. As a result, I put plenty of effort into fulfilling my family obligations (Mehta, & Sidhar, 2017). Social events also hold a very important position in my heart. I ensure that I remember all important events such as my family’s and friend’s birthdays and anniversaries and am always open to attending weddings, holiday parties, family reunions, and other significant occasions. Despite the weakness that I tend to be rigid when implementing rules and routines, I take my own opinions very seriously. I tend to incline to what others have to say about a particular issue. This makes me a perfect match for ESTJ, which emphasizes all these attributes.
I appreciate orderliness and organization in everything I am doing. I do extremely well whenever I am placed in supervisory positions. Whenever I am assigned to be a leader of either a team or department, I commit myself fully to ensure that the members strictly observe rules, culture, and laws that have been set in place by the authority (Carstens, 2006). When I was in school, I was a hardworking and dependable individual who always scooped top position in any exam and related well with everyone around me. I also do my best to ensure that I follow the rules and directions to the letter and portray a great deal of deference and respect to authority figures. This is a clear illustration that I am a true ESTJ which provides that as a character belonging to this personality, I am always thorough and punctual in completing important tasks. I barely ask questions or provide complaints about the tasks I have been assigned to do. ESTJ also provides that I have unique abilities that enable me to excel in many careers. The great emphasis on following rules to the letter makes me the best candidate for management and supervisory position (Quenk, 2009). On the other hand, the ideal respect for law and the figures in authority provides a great opportunity to easily succeed in law enforcement roles, which is important in shaping me to be a better person and improve my relationship with other people regardless of where they are come from.
Conclusion
I am a very dedicated individual, and I am always looking forward to helping people in my life with their problems. I am always contented whenever I make other people smile. Whenever they show gratitude for my efforts, I am always motivated to learn more alternatives to a problem and lead the group I will achieve their objectives. The logical perspective always ensures that I provide simple but realistic visions. If implemented by the organization, they always provide long-lasting solutions that help push the organization to greater heights above their competitors. The outgoing attribute enables me to develop new friends wherever I am going, which has improved the length of my social circle. It has provided me with individuals who have preferences like mine, which have made life beautiful. Such include the preference to work in a conducive environment that has pushed me to the edge to campaign for a clean and supportive environment for employees, thus improving performance.
Recommendation
To reduce the tendency of making impulsive decisions, especially after feeling as if other people are ignoring my efforts, it will be necessary to take a step back in everything and reflect on new ways to approach an issue. Putting myself together first before taking action will enable me to experience orderliness, success, and peace of mind, bringing more happiness to my life and contention. By reducing the urge to make hasty decisions, I will keep track of my daily progress and do everything that will account for achieving my goals in life. At the same time, I will embrace myself around the people who bring joy into my life, enabling me to establish something new besides a successful career.
If I implement the strategy, I will be able to be more patient and adapt my listening skills to listen to my colleague’s opinion about an issue at hand, ensuring that the group will have a diversified approach instead of one way of doing things. This will motivate everyone in the group to feel appreciated and included, which will propel their motivation to participate in meetings and improve performance.
I should take part in physical activities, which helps greatly in reducing stress and anxiety levels by boosting metabolism that will ensure that I only focus on the good things in life and avoid unnecessary stress. The ability to take control of my stress levels will create an opportunity that I can use to understand the way of thinking of other people and adjust myself accordingly to have better relationships with everyone.
Even though my family appears to be cohesive, probably because we have similar attributes, familiarity with the accepted theory of different MBTI traits will be important in ensuring that they understand every individual’s uniqueness and learn how to interact with them (Quenk, 2009).
