America’s Got Terpenes

America’s Got Terpenes

Part 2: Spotlight on Linalool

The cannabis flower produces more than two hundred odiferous chemicals from small resin glands. These chemicals impart a variety of attractive scents and flavors, including floral, fruity and spicy notes. In addition to having pleasant smells, these chemicals, called terpenes, each bring their own set of health benefits to humans, including pain reduction and stress relief, plus the ability to shrink tumors.

There are six ‘star’ terpenes out of the two hundred. These six have the best flavors and health benefits: caryophyllene, humulene, limonene, linalool, myrcene and pinene. We have featured pinene in a previous post in this blog – America’s Got Terpenes Part 1 – so in this current blog post we are shining our spotlight on linalool.

For thousands of years, people have sought out flowers and spice plants containing linalool for the benefits they bring. In addition to cannabis, there are two hundred plants containing linalool, including lavender, mint and coriander plus many other herbs.

People found that inhaling the subtle aroma brought by the presence of linalool – a floral scent with a hint of spice – boosted their physical and mental well-being. With many health-giving properties, the most popular benefit imparted by linalool is stress reduction. Linalool is also valued for its ability to beat depression and lower inflammation.

In today’s world, linalool is a valuable ally in the battle against opioid over-use and addiction, where drugs such as Vicodin and Oxycontin are becoming a problem in society. Natural terpenes like linalool are effective natural substitutes for opioids in the treatment of serious medical conditions. By taking linalool in the form of cannabis, patients can alleviate their symptoms and not be exposed to the risk of becoming addicted to opiate drugs.

Below are some details on the properties of linalool, along with where it can be obtained:

Linalool
